Six Killed, Three Dozen Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Six people were killed and at least 35 others wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday evening.

The most recent homicides happened within minutes of each other Sunday night on the Southwest and West sides, according to Chicago Police.

At 8:40 p.m., officers found a 30-year-old man on the street in Gage Park's 2400 block of West 58th Street, police said. He was shot in the abdomen, groin and shoulder and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later died, police said.

About the same time, a 42-year-old man was driving in Austin's 1000 block of North Lamon when someone opened fire, striking him repeatedly, police said. His vehicle crashed into a parked car and the man, a documented gang member, was dead at the scene, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner's office did not immediately confirm those deaths.

About 6 a.m. Sunday, a man was shot to death in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Raul Lagunas, 28, suffered gunshot wounds to the neck and arm near his home in the 1500 block of North Avers, authorities said. He was dead at the scene, but police did not have details on the circumstances of the attack.

The woman had been standing on a porch nearby when she heard gunfire and realized she'd suffered a graze wound to the right thigh, police said. She was treated and released at the scene.

Investigators think the shooting was gang-related.

Early Saturday, a 34-year-old man was shot to death in Garfield Ridge on the Southwest Side.

Witnesses told investigators they heard shots, looked out the window and saw him lying on the ground with gunshot wounds to the head just before 5 a.m. in the 5200 block of South Menard. He was dead at the scene.

The medical examiner's office confirmed the fatalities on Albany and Menard but the victims' identities still were being withheld Sunday night.

Friday evening, a man was killed and a 16-year-old boy was wounded in a West Garfield Park neighborhood shooting.

Cory Fisher, 18, and the boy got into a fight with a third person who then pulled out a gun and opened fire at 6:12 p.m. in the 3800 block of West Lexington, authorities said.

Fisher, of the 3200 block of West Carroll, was shot in the head and the boy was shot in the right shoulder, authorities said. Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where Fisher was pronounced dead at 6:24 p.m., authorities said. The teen's condition was stabilized.
