Kanye West To Receive Vanguard Award At VMA's

Kanye West hasn't always had the best relationship with the VMAs—this was the awards show, after all, where he originally landed in hot water after interrupting Taylor Swift on stage. Still, he'll have a very good reason to celebrate this coming Sunday (August 30th) at 9:00 p.m. ET, when he's awarded the VMA’s highest honor: “Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.”

The award goes to those who have achieved a lifetime of music video greatness. There can be no doubt, in West's case—after all, he's been releasing cinematic greatness for over a decade, from "Jesus Walks" to his "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" short film all the way to "Bound 2" and "Only One." A press release notes that
 West “has blended musical and visual artistry to powerful effect” throughout his career.
