Lawsuit Alleges Bulls' Derrick Rose Raped His Ex-Girlfriend

(CBS) Bulls point guard Derrick Rose is being sued by an ex-girlfriend who claims he and two of his friends drugged her and then raped her in late August 2013 in California.

The accuser brought forth the civil complaint in Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County.

The suit alleges that on multiple occasions, Rose asked the ex-girlfriend -- identified only as "Jane Doe" in the court filing -- to have sex with Rose his friends. She refused time and again. In August 2013, Rose and his friends drugged her at his Beverly Hills residence, the suit alleges. The plaintiff's friend helped her get home in a cab, but Rose and his friends went to her residence and sexually assaulted and raped her, according to the lawsuit. They gained access because the complex's main door and her apartment door had been left unlocked.

The accuser didn't come forward earlier because she was "terribly shamed and embarrassed," the suit says, and she came from a "conservative" family.

Rose and the accuser first met in October 2011 at a party he was hosting in the Los Angeles area during the NBA lockout. They met about 12 times in 2011, about 10 times in 2012 and five times in 2013, the suit says.

Rose has a young son who was born in fall 2012. The accuser wasn't aware Rose had a son until she heard him talking about him to another individual in May 2013, according to the suit.

Several hours after news broke Wednesday evening in a first report by TMZ, the Bulls responded by saying they'd just been made aware of the allegations and are gathering facts.

"We just learned about this matter and do not know all the facts," the Bulls said in a statement. "It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."

Rose's attorney/spokesperson Lisa Cohen strongly denied the allegations, indicating it's a money grab.

"The plaintiff's allegations are completely false and without any factual basis," Cohen said. "This is nothing more than a desperate attempt to shake down a highly respected and successful athlete. Mr. Rose was in a non-exclusive, consensual sexual relationship with the plaintiff for over two years. The plaintiff expressed no complaints about Mr. Rose until various lawyers began to surface and demand that the plaintiff be paid millions of dollars. This is the third lawyer the plaintiff has retained in this matter. Two years have passed since Mr. Rose ended the consensual relationship with the plaintiff and her claims are as meritless now as they were two years ago.

"We have complete confidence that the case will be dismissed and that Mr. Rose will be vindicated. This lawsuit is outrageous."
