Eight Wounded In Thursday Shootings Across Chicago
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Eight people were wounded in shootings Thursday on the city's South and West sides.
Most recently, two men were shot late Thursday in the West Side Austin neighborhood.
The men, ages 19 and 20, were standing outside in the 1500 block of North Linder about 10:25 p.m. when shots were fired in their direction from a group of males standing on the corner across the street, according to Chicago Police. The 19-year-old suffered a graze wound to the back and was taken in good condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park. The older man was shot in the left arm and was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
Less than 90 minutes earlier, a 26-year-old man was shot in the head in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side.
He was riding in the back seat of a vehicle traveling west on 67th Street near Wabash about 9 p.m. when someone opened fire from the sidewalk, police said. The driver took him to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, and he later was transferred in critical condition to Stroger Hospital.
About 3:30 p.m., a man was shot in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
The 48-year-old was in the 3400 block of West Lexington when he got into an argument with another male, who pulled out a gun and shot him in the abdomen, police said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition was stabilized. The shooter is a known gang member, police said.
About two hours earlier, two men were shot in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.
The attack happened about 1:30 p.m. in the 6400 block of South Honore, police said. One man, 24, was shot in the foot and thigh. It wasn't clear where on the body the other man, 21, was shot, police said. Both were taken to hospitals where their conditions stabilized, police said. Additional details were not available.
Earlier Thursday, a man was shot while trying to run away from a gunman in East Garfield Park.
The 31-year-old was walking down the street in the 3000 block of West Washington about 7:35 a.m. when a gunman called out to him, police said. The man tried to run away, but was shot in the calf. He was taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital. A police source said the man was not very cooperative with investigators, and is a documented gang member.
Thursday's first shooting happened about 12:40 a.m. in the South Shore neighborhood.
A 34-year-old man was standing outside of a vehicle near 67th and East End when a gray vehicle approached and someone inside opened fire in his direction, police said. He was shot in the left shoulder and leg and took himself to University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System, where his condition was stabilized.
