Bears Haven't Ruled Out Moving Kyle Long To Right Tackle

By Chris Emma--

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (CBS) -- Will it be Jordan Mills or Charles Leno who wins over the Bears' starting right tackle spot? It may be neither.

After both have struggled in the preseason, Chicago coach John Fox on Monday didn't rule out the possibility of shifting Pro Bowl right guard Kyle Long outside to right tackle. That would likely open up the right guard position for Vladimir Ducasse.

"We've got options, we've got guys we're looking at," Fox said. "To say it's perfectly settled at this point is probably not the case."

Mills started the preseason opener against Miami but was beaten consistently. Leno has started the past two exhibitions at right tackle, but his play has only led to more question marks as well.

Long has seen time in practice working at right tackle, namely in OTAs. It's enough experience that Long feels comfortable with a potential move.

"We have to practice before they play," Fox said. "He's had plenty of practice at guard and tackle."

The Bears' other tackle position appears to be a problem, too. Jermon Bushrod continues to play through a back injury, and he hasn't been the same effective player on the left side.

Moving forward, Bushrod remains the Bears' starting left tackle, even if he's playing through some pain.

"I don't know that anybody out there is 100 percent, by the nature of what they do," Fox said. "I think he's done a decent job, and we're comfortable moving forward."

Thursday's preseason finale with the Browns will prove to be the final chance for the Bears to gain some continuity on the offensive line.
