Will County Sets Record For Rabid Bat Cases

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Will County has now recorded more cases of wildlife rabies than in any previous year.

There have been 14 cases of rabid bats in Will County this year, surpassing last year's record of 13.

This 14th rabid bat was found in a residence in Homer Glen.

The Will County Health Department said it has recommended two people in that home get post-exposure shots. It already recommended those shots for seven other people in Homer Glen since July.

Will County said it's one of at least 16 counties to report wildlife rabies cases this year. More than 60 percent of the cases this year have been in Cook, DuPage, or Will Counties.
