Chicago Bears Trim Roster Down To 53

(CBS) The Chicago Bears have trimmed their roster down to 53 after cutting 20 players, the team announced Saturday.

Among the cuts were offensive lineman Michael Ola and linebacker David Bass, who both started games for the Bears last season.

Ola started 12 games on the Bears' offensive line last season, playing both the guard and tackle positions.

The Bears waived 16 players and terminated the contracts of four veterans. Safety Anthony Jefferson was placed on the injured reserve list, and defensive lineman Jeremiah Ratliff was placed on the reserve/suspended list as he sits out the first three games of the season.
