Chipotle Hiring 4,000 New Employees Nationwide

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Plenty of Chicagoans were lined up at Chipotle restaurants on Wednesday, but it wasn't just to buy burritos. The Mexican food chain was holding a one-day hiring blitz, in an effort to hire 4,000 new employees nationwide.

James Ambrose was at the Chipotle at 316 N. Michigan Av.

"I've been out of work the last three months, and then saw the flyer that they're having a tremendous career fair nationally, and that spurred my interest to come out," he said.

Cesar Lopez was looking for a part-time job while he goes to school.

"They're interviewing a lot of people, and they'll get back with them for a second interview in a week," he said.

Chipotle has said it expects to interview 40,000 people for the 4,000 job openings.

"It's not easy. It's a lot of people interviewing, too, so you have to compete with other people," Lopez said. "You hope for the best. Hopefully I'll get it."

New hires at Chipotle earn an average of $10 per hour nationwide, and get a 401(k) plan. The chain also recently announced it was offering entry level workers paid time off and tuition reimbursement plans.
