CTA To Pay $4.3 Million To Family Of Pilsen Woman Killed In Accident
(CBS) -- The CTA will pay $4.3 million to the family of a Pilsen woman who was killed in a hit-and-run accident and then hit a second time by a bus. WBBM's Bob Roberts explains.
Police have never found the blue sedan that first struck Martha Gonzalez at 18th and Halsted on Oct. 13, 2009 or the man who drove the car.
Bus driver Frankie Myles stopped but by that time it was too late; the mother of two was dead. Myles was never ticketed and after standard retraining he drove for two more years before retiring from CTA.

WBBM asked CTA President Dorval Carter why settle?
"There are a lot of unknowns that go into court and you basically put a case before the jury and just because we have a certain set of facts we believe will ultimately prevail, there is no guarantee of that," Carter said.
The settlement is the CTA's first since 2011.
