Thursday Afternoon Storms Bringing Cooler Temps
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Thunderstorms rolling into the Chicago area on Thursday were expected to make for a soggy afternoon commute, and usher in fall-like temperatures.
Some far northern suburbs already were seeing showers and thunderstorms late Thursday morning, as a storm cell moved southeast from the Wisconsin state line.
Though the storms were not expected to be severe, the National Weather Service said they will bring occasional heavy downpours and lightning strikes, as well as gusty winds.
Those storms were expected to plow through the city later Thursday afternoon. The stronger storms were expected to stay west and southwest of the city.
Once that cold front moves through, temperatures will take a noticeable dip.
Temperatures were in the mid 70s early Thursday afternoon, but were expected to drop steadily to the mid 60s overnight, and then plunge into the mid 50s late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
The weekend should see highs in the mid 60s, with mostly dry conditions after Friday morning, when more rain is likely.
