Boy, 9, Honors First Responders On Sept. 11
(CBS) – Sept. 11 happened five years before his birth. Yet for a west suburban boy, it's become the central day of his life.
CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports on Travis Hall.
Somewhere around kindergarten, Travis, the son of a jail officer, learned about the first-responders who died on Sept. 11.
"The people who died on 9/11, I think they deserve a memorial better than just somebody putting up an American flag," he says.
He has sponsors donate food, which he then takes to first responders, to show his appreciation. He hands everyone he meets a "Thank You" sticker.
Among his stops Friday, Sept. 11, was at the office of Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart. When Dart honored Travis with a medal of honor, the young men became emotional.
"I think it was a very big deal," Travis tells Edwards.
Travis also raises and donates $343 to charity every year. That is the number of firefighters who died on 9/11.
