Fund Used To Pay McHenry County Jurors Running Low After Pay Hike

(CBS) -- A pay hike for jurors leaves McHenry County scrambling to cover costs. WBBM's Nancy Harty reports the county board is slated to vote Tuesday night on transferring funds.

Jurors in McHenry County now earn $25 for the first day of service and $50 for subsequent days. That is up from $5 daily or $12.50 if they were picked for a jury. That is due to a new state law that took effect in July.

The county administrator says they will run out of money any day now and there are three jury trials expected this and next month.

A board resolution says savings from cutting the size of civil juries down to six, another part of the new law, have been outpaced by the higher jury paychecks and the county board needs to move $100,000 into the court administration fund.
