Coroner: McHenry Deputy Shot Last Fall Died From Blood Clot In His Lungs

(CBS) -- The McHenry County Coroner says a sheriff's deputy shot almost a year ago died yesterday of a blood clot to the lungs.

The coroner says McHenry County Sheriff's Deputy Dwight Maness was in a rehabilitation session when he experienced cardiopulmonary arrest - and that an autopsy showed he died from a pulmonary embolism - a blood clot to the lungs.

Deputy Maness and his partner were both shot last October when they went to a home in Holiday Hills to do a well-being check.

Maness was seriously wounded and went through surgeries and physical rehab.

The sheriff has said Maness had recently talked about returning to work.

The man convicted of the shootings is serving a 135-year prison sentence.

Prosecutors say no decision has been made about charging that man with murder.
