Fox Lake Residents Petitioning To Rename Metra Train After Lt. Gliniwiecz

FOX LAKE, Ill. (CBS) --Two weeks ago, Fox Lake Lieutenant Joe Gliniwiecz lost his life and now there's a new push for a lasting memorial.

CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports Fox Lake resident Heather Elmore started an online petition with the goal of honoring the memory of Fox Lake Lt. Gliniewicz. Elmore wants Metra to rename one of their trains to be named after him.

"They will paint on the side of the train so that so anybody who sees it in Fox Lake or Antioch, they'll know that he's remembered," she says.

Elmore says so far, 300 people have signed the online petition to have a Metra train named for Gliniewicz. Elmore says it would be the perfect tribute to the man who trained young people who aspired to have careers in law enforcement.

"He trained at the train yard here with his Explorers, with the police department, so we thought it was a very fitting memorial," she says. "Signs are just going to get blown around the blue ribbons will disappear eventually. This is a lasting memorial for him."

The ATF and FBI are still assisting in the investigation, two weeks after Gliniewicz's death. The lieutenant was killed while pursuing three suspicious people in Fox Lake Employees at Working World Inc. continue to show their support for the fallen lieutenant.

"Finding the individuals that were involved, is definitely everybody's main goal and hopefully that the family can somewhat get closure, that is the biggest thing, more so than the community itself," says Nico Luttrell of Working World Inc.

Officially authorities are investigating the case as a homicide, but they have not ruled out any scenario, including suicide.
