16 Shot In Chicago Since Friday Night
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Sixteen people were shot in Chicago in an eight-hour period between Friday night and early Saturday.
Most recently, a man was shot while riding in a vehicle in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood.
The 24-year-old was a passenger in the front seat of a vehicle traveling eastbound in the 2100 block of West Cullerton about 3:25 a.m. when another male walked up and shot him, police said.
He was driven to UIC Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his upper left thigh, police said. His condition had stabilized.
Fifteen minutes earlier, two people were shot in Greater Grand Crossing.
A man and woman were standing on the sidewalk in the 7300 block of South Maryland when a male in a passing black car shot them, police said.
The woman, 18, was shot in the neck, shoulder, ankle and hand, police said. She was listed in critical condition at Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center. The man, 25, was shot in the thigh and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.
About 2:30 a.m., two males — whose ages were not known Saturday morning — were shot while riding in a vehicle on the Dan Ryan Expressway near 71st Street, according to Illinois State Police. They drove to an area hospital, but further information was not immediately available.
Twenty minutes earlier, a 27-year-old man was walking in the 7400 block of South Eggleston when he heard shots ring out and felt pain, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound to his right knee and left hip. His condition had stabilized.
About 1:25 a.m., a 31-year-old man was found shot several times in the street in the 2700 block of West Augusta, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital with gunshot wounds to his face, neck and abdomen. He was listed in serious condition.
About 11:50 p.m. Friday, a 19-year-old was sitting in the passenger seat of a car parked in the 7100 block of South Ashland, police said. As he was in the car, another male walked up and shot him in the abdomen, right leg, right ankle and buttocks. He was driven to Holy Cross Hospital, but was later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital. He was listed in serious condition.
Forty-five minutes earlier, an 18-year-old man was walking home when someone walked up to him in the 5900 block of West Augusta and shot him in the arm, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
Ten minutes earlier, three men were injured, one critically, in an Austin shooting.
They were on the street in the 400 block of North Central just before 11 p.m. when they heard shots and realized they'd been hit, police said.
A 30-year-old man was shot in the chest and face and taken to Loretto Hospital before being transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. He was listed in critical condition.
A 38-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and taken to Loretto, while a 41-year-old man was shot in the ankle and right shoulder and taken to Mount Sinai, according to police. Their conditions were stabilized.
Two men, ages 18 and 20, were outside about 7:50 p.m. in the 4400 block of South Campbell when someone fired shots from a passing vehicle, police said.
The younger man was shot in the leg and grazed in the head, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. A bullet grazed the older man's back and he was taken to Saint Anthony Hospital. Their conditions stabilized.
The weekend's first shooting occurred in a Bronzeville neighborhood restaurant.
About 7:20 p.m., a patron was asked to leave after he got into an argument with a woman at the restaurant in the 4300 block of South Prairie, according to police.
The person returned with a gun and opened fire inside the restaurant, police said.
A 25-year-old woman shot in the left leg was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and a 37-year-old man shot in the right leg was taken to Stroger Hospital, police said. It wasn't clear if they were the intended targets.
Their conditions stabilized, police said.
