Chicago Bears Least Likely NFL Team To Make Playoffs

CHICAGO (CBS) -- If the preseason predictions and the first two weeks of the regular season aren't enough evidence, a new analysis finds that the Chicago Bears have the worst chance of any NFL team to make the playoffs.

Using the Elo system, Nate Silver of FiveThirtyEight finds that the Bears' likelihood of making the playoffs now stand at a mere 5 percent.

Silver has tweaked the Elo system, which was devised by physicist Arpad E. Elo to rank chess players, to analyze football. Silver touts Elo as a simple system to calculate point spreads and a team's probability of winning a game.

To that end, Elo predicts the Bears will win 4.7 games this season. Overall, the Bears rank 29th in the league after two games, according to Elo.

The top three teams are New England, Green Bay and Seattle, which is Chicago's Week 3 opponent.

The Cardinals, who rolled over the Bears on Sunday, are ranked No. 6.

That's an incredibly tough start for a team with well-documented issues.

There may be hope in Week 4, when the No. 27 Oakland Raiders visit Solider Field.
