Bears' Antrel Rolle On Kyle Fuller: He's Being Asked To Do A Lot But Needs To Be 'True Professional'

(CBS) Veteran Bears safety Antrel Rolle is keeping his message direct for second-year cornerback Kyle Fuller, who has struggled mightily in Chicago's two losses to open the season, culminating in a bench in Sunday's blowout loss to Arizona.

"Kyle, I think he possesses all the tools you need to have to be a great cornerback," Rolle said in an interview on the Spiegel and Goff Show on Tuesday. "I'm fully confident in Kyle. I just felt like he's a young guy being asked to do big things at such a young age early in his career. And that's fine, you know. He's a first-round pick. You have to have high expectations for him. So with Kyle, he has to be a true professional and he has to be a true studier of film. And more importantly, he has to play with his strengths. If you're going to press a guy, you have to make sure you put your hands on a guy. You can't line up in front of a guy and then not disrupt him whatsoever."

Fuller has been called for a couple defensive pass interferences early in the season, resulting in big yards for Chicago's foes.

"As far as the pass interferences, I just think he just needs to put himself in better position and make plays on the ball as opposed to trying to read the receiver's hands all the time and make plays that way," Rolle said. "Some calls are questionable, but other than that, I think they've been the right calls ... as far as the pass interferences (on us as a team)."

Rolle also wasn't happy with Arizona continuing to blitz late in the game and throw deep in a lopsided contest, but he fully understood what the Cardinals were doing and said he's been taught the same way.

"You do what you need to do -- you step on their throat," Rolle said. "That's how I was raised to play the game.

"Being on the opposing side -- which I am a Bear -- if you don't like something, you stop it.

"For them to try to go score at the end of the game, I told our guys, 'That's extremely disrespectful.' But at the end of the day, if you're a man and they're men, you stop it. You don't let other men disrespect you."
