Cubs The Talk Of The Town After Clinching Postseason Berth

(CBS) -- It's almost too good to be true. In Wrigleyville and beyond, they are talking postseason baseball after the Cubs clinched a wild-card spot over the weekend.

CBS 2's Vince Gerasole reports the leaves are looking like fall, but the guys at the Riverwalk are talking baseball -- unbelievable Cubs postseason baseball.

"I am feeling good, but I am still reserved," Ryan Stover said. "I am not ready to go all in.

At 670 The Score, sponsored football chat is drowned out by baseball banter.

"On a Monday to be talking about the Cubs instead of the Bears is rather shocking, but I think that tells you a lot about where we are right now," said 670 The Score host Barry Rozner.

Where the Cubs are is into a wild-card game Oct. 7, most likely with the Pittsburgh Pirates, in a matchup dubbed the "Little Super Bowl."

It's a long-hoped-for tomorrow fans are buying up today.

"The merchandise is going out the door as fast as I can get it," Steve Shaevitz said of Sports World.

"I've got three hats here and a bunch of shirts and this isn't the only place we've been to so we're definitely stocking up," said David Barbee, who was visiting from San Francisco with his wife Lisa.

On postseason shirts and hats, fans were stocking up much more on Cubs gear than Pirates fans who were just in town.

"It's embarrassing I had to lower them just to try get rid of them," Shaevitz said.

And though he's apprehensive, Ryan here's really a believer too.

"I'll be honest, I am scheduling my whole October based on the playoff schedule," Stover said.
