If On Road For Wild-Card Game, Cubs Hoping To Host Watch Party At Wrigley Field For Fans

(CBS) If the standings hold and the Cubs are on the road to face the Pirates in the NL wild-card game on Oct. 7, they're hoping to host a watch party for fans at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs still need permission from MLB to put on the event, so nothing's definitive yet, spokesman Julian Green said. Given the massive video boards at Wrigley Field, the idea is extremely appealing to fans and one that owner Tom Ricketts said Monday that the team was entertaining. Earlier this season during a rain delay, the Cubs put a Blackhawks playoff game on the video board, to rave reviews from fans.

Tickets would be sold to season-ticket holders and then the general public, with proceeds going to charity, the Chicago Tribune reported.

It's possible, though unlikely, that the Cubs could host the game. Chicago entered Tuesday 3.5 games behind Pittsburgh, including three in the loss column. If the teams finish the season tied, the Cubs would host the game because they won the season series.
