Man Taking Pictures Outside Synagogue, High School Prompts Alert In Skokie

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police in Skokie have issued a suspicious person alert after a man was seen taking photos outside a synagogue and local high school.

According to police, a white or Middle Eastern man was photographing the sign outside the Iran Hebrew Congregation in the 3800 block of Main Street around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The man was confronted by security and then left in a 2015 white Chevrolet Malibu, with Illinois license plate E 906 649. CBS 2 has learned the car was registered to a rental car company.

Two hours later, the same man was spotted by security guards taking photos outside Niles North High School.

The person tried to enter the front entrance, but the door was locked. When he was approached by security, the man left in the same vehicle.

Skokie Police, in a statement, said investigators are trying to determine the man's identity and reasons for the behavior.

The public is urged to call 911 if the see the suspect or have any information.
