1 Killed, 8 Wounded In Tuesday Shootings Across Chicago

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man was killed and eight others were wounded in shootings Tuesday on the South and West sides, police said.

One man was fatally shot and another wounded in the West Garfield Park neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

About 3:15 p.m., the 24-year-old men were sitting in a vehicle in the 4400 block of West Maypole when someone walked up, fired into the car and ran away, according to Chicago Police. One of the men was shot in the head while the other was shot in the hand. The condition of the man who was shot in the hand was stabilized.

The man shot in the head was later pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the death.

The most recent non-fatal shooting happened about 7:45 p.m. in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. Officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 1300 block of South Kostner and found a 19-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the neck, according to police. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

Police said the man is a documented gang member.

Less than half an hour earlier, a 25-year-old man was shot in the foot in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. The shooting happened about 7:20 p.m. in the 7200 block of South Marshfield, police said. The man was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition and wasn't cooperating with investigators about the attack.

Shortly after noon, a separate North Lawndale shooting left another man critically injured. The 25-year-old was in the 1400 block of South Kostner when someone walked up, shot him in the abdomen and left side and then ran away, police said. He was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Tuesday morning, a man and woman were shot near Douglas Park on the West Side. The two were in the 1300 block of South Albany about 9:15 a.m. when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired shots, police said. The 53-year-old woman was shot in the chin and the 21-year-old man in the leg. Both were taken to Mount Sinai, where their conditions stabilized.

About 45 minutes earlier, a man was shot in the leg in the South Shore neighborhood. The 27-year-old was in the 7200 block of South Phillips about 8:30 a.m. when someone walked up and opened fire, police said. He was taken in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

The day's first shooting happened in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side. At 7:55 a.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in the arm and torso in the 0-100 block of West 112th Street and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. His condition was stabilized.
