Holiday Hit List: Who's Open and Who's Closed on Thanksgiving?

For many holiday shoppers, Thanksgiving has become synonymous with the start of the holiday shopping season. Which shopping centers are open on Thanksgiving in the Chicago area, and which will have earlier-than-normal hours on Black Friday? Take a look at this list of shopping centers to see who is opening their doors for the holiday season on the biggest shopping day of the year — and who will get an early start and be open for business on Thanksgiving Day.

Get ready for 24 hours of shopping at Fashion Outlets of Chicago's "Fashionably Late" event. Starting at 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving and continuing through 10 p.m. on Black Friday, the event will include celebrity DJs so you can dance while you shop, as well as plenty of time to peruse your options. Fashion Outlets of Chicago, located just outside Chicago in the suburb of Rosemont, has more than 130 retailers, including Aldo, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Coach, Gap and more. Walk off part of your Thanksgiving feast when you shop at Chicago Ridge Mall. The shopping center opens its doors on Thanksgiving Day from 6 p.m. to midnight, and then opens again on Black Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. so you can shop for even more items for the holidays. The mall includes a wide assortment of retailers, with Bed Bath & Beyond, Carson's, Disney Store, Kohl's and Lids on the list. The mall has a total of more than 130 shops and restaurants, and includes a list of deals available through its retailers on its website.

If you'd like to stay away from the large shopping malls this holiday season while picking up something unique, then consider making your way to the shopping district in the historic Long Grove. The northwest suburb features an array of independent stores where shoppers can find vintage clothing, antiques, chocolates, specialty foods, candles, art and other items for everyone their list. Some retailers in Long Grove will be open on Thanksgiving Day, some starting their days as early as 8 a.m., while other retailers will be open on Black Friday. Maybe you'd like to sleep off that Thanksgiving feast and hibernate for a bit on Black Friday. If that's the case, then rest assured you won't need to wake up early to get deals at Abt. The electronics retailer will open at 8 a.m., giving you plenty of time to lounge at home and maybe linger over a cup of coffee. Abt offers a wide selection of electronics, kitchen appliances, home theater systems, tablets, fitness equipment and other gear for your home. The retailer will post deals for Black Friday on its website.
