Cubs Go With 11 Pitchers, 14 Position Players On NLDS Roster

(CBS) The Cubs have elected to go with 11 pitchers and 14 position players on their roster for their NLDS matchup with the Cardinals. The only change from the roster Chicago used in the wild-card game is the expected addition of right-hander Jason Hammel and the removal of outfielder Quintin Berry, whose role was to be a pinch-runner.

That means manager Joe Maddon will have six position-player pinch-hitters to utilize off the bench. He's indicated Hammel can be used out of the bullpen as a long reliever if needed in the first three games. If Hammel isn't used -- or is used sparingly and rested -- he'll likely get the Game 4 start.
