Police: 3 Dead, 12 Wounded In Weekend Shootings Across Chicago

(STMW) -- Three people were killed — including a 17-year-old boy — and at least 12 others have been wounded in shootings across Chicago this weekend.

The most recent homicide happened eary Sunday, when a man was killed and two others were injured in a shooting in the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side.

The three men—ages 24, 35 and 40—were sitting in a parked vehicle in the 5400 block of South Prairie about 4:20 a.m. when another vehicle pulled alongside and someone inside opened fire, according to Chicago Police.

The 35-year-old was shot in the head and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The 40-year-old was shot in the back and the 24-year-old suffered a graze wound to the head, police said. They also were taken to Stroger, where the older man was listed in serious condition and the younger man's condition was stabilized.

About 24 hours earlier, a 17-year-old boy was gunned down in East Garfield Park.

He was a passenger in a vehicle in the 3900 block of West Ferdinand about 4:10 a.m. Saturday when someone walked up and shot him in the neck and face, police said. He was taken to Stroger, where he was pronounced dead.

Less than an hour before that, a 36-year-old man was shot death at a party in Austin.

The 36-year-old was at the party in the 1100 block of North Lawler about 3:20 a.m. when another male shot him in the head, police said. He was taken to Stroger, where he later died.

The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the deaths but withheld the victims' names Sunday afternoon pending notification of their families.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened at an Austin gas station Sunday morning.

About 5 a.m., a 31-year-old man got into an argument with another male at the station in the 5100 block of West Chicago.

The other person got into a vehicle and opened fire as he drove away, striking the 31-year-old in the left shoulder, police said.

Acquaintances dropped the man off at West Suburban Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition.

Two hours earlier, three men were wounded in a shooting on a party bus in the South Loop.

About 3 a.m., a fight broke out on the bus in the 1100 block of South Jefferson and a male pulled out a handgun and opened fire, police said.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the left leg, while a 22-year-old man with documented gang ties was shot in the leg and side. They were both taken to Stroger, where their conditions were stabilized.

Another 22-year-old man was shot in the right hand and was taken to Rush University Medical Center, where his condition was also stabilized, police said.

At least six others have been injured in separate shootings across the city since 11 p.m Friday.
