Bulls' Derrick Rose 'Most Likely' Will Miss Entire Preseason
(CBS) Bulls point guard Derrick Rose will "most likely" miss the remainder of the preseason as he recovers from surgery on a fractured left orbital, coach Fred Hoiberg told reporters Tuesday, and it's unclear if he'll be able to play in the season opener against the Cavaliers on Oct. 27.
The original timetable the team placed on Rose called for him to return to basketball activities Wednesday, but he continues to have swelling around his left eye that blurs his vision. Chicago has four preseason games left, the final of which comes on Oct. 23, that Rose probably won't participate in.
"They still want him to be a little bit careful just with the swelling, make sure that his vision is back to where it's supposed to be, to where it was before he got hit, before they want him to get anything going on with his blood pressure spiking is how I understand it," Hoiberg said, according to the Tribune.
Rose has done light activity like shoot free throws but remains a week away from "working up a sweat," Hoiberg said.
After the Sept. 30 surgery, Rose was largely house-bound because he was sensitive to light. He returned Monday to the team for the first time since the surgery and was in the building for Chicago's loss to New Orleans at the United Center, though he didn't watch from the bench.
As expected, Joakim Noah (left knee) and Taj Gibson (left ankle) are on track to play in Wednesday's home contest against the Pistons, the Tribune reported.
