Cubs Could Make More History With NLDS Win At Wrigley
CHICAGO (CBS) -- History is on the line for the Cubs on Tuesday at Wrigley Field. If the Cubs beat the Cardinals in Game 4 of the National League Divisional Series, it will be the first time they've ever clinched a playoff series on their home field.
In 17 postseason series in their history, the Cubs have won only three – the 1907 and 1908 World Series and the 2003 NLDS. They beat the Tigers both times they won it all, but each time was at Bennett Park in Detroit.
The Cubs had a chance to win the 2003 NLDS at home, but they failed to do so before taking the series in Atlanta at Turner Field. They also had a chance to close out the 2003 National League Championship Series at home against the Marlins but lost Games 6 and 7.
It's been a postseason full of firsts for the Cubs. They had their first playoff matchups against the Pirates and Cardinals. They became the first team to hit six home runs in a single playoff game. And outfielder Jorge Soler was the first player ever to reach base in the first nine plate appearances of his playoff career.
Soler will a chance to keep that streak going Tuesday, when he'll be batting second and playing right field in Game 4 against the Cardinals.
