Lucky Cubs Fans Win Lottery To Buy NLCS Tickets

(CBS) -- Saturday night's Cubs-Mets NLCS game is in New York, but the games move to Wrigley Field next week.

Fans are clamoring for tickets, and the second-hand market can get pretty pricey, but some lucky fans got tickets through a lottery.

CBS 2's Jeremy Ross reports tickets on stubhub.com are ranging from $175 for standing-room only. The highest asking price is $100,000 a ticket. To put that in perspective, if you buy three of those, you're spending about the cost of an average home in the city of Chicago, according to the Illinois Association of Realtors.

But a select few got tickets the old-fashioned way at face value.

After weeks of waiting in the Cubs ticket lottery, the Richmans hit the jackpot. A million registered for a chance to buy Cubs postseason tickets.

On Wednesday, the lucky ones selected were sent a code and Friday they got to buy those tickets.

The team and fans are no doubt anxious to get back to the friendly confines of Wrigley Field and prove they're the best in the National League.

While you have to play games one and two before Chicago hosts Tuesday night's game three, fans can't wait, and neither can young Jacklin Richman.

"I was freaking out in excitement and it was just like OMG," she said.

The lottery is over, but that kind of excitement could continue. If the Cubs make it to the World Series, some lucky fans who took part in the lottery will be sent a code and given a chance to buy tickets again.
