After The Bell: Stocks Close Lower On Wall Street

(CBS) -- Stocks closed slightly lower Tuesday, with the Dow Jones industrial average snapping a three-day winning streak, as investors digested quarterly earnings and housing data. The S&P 500 lost 3, the NASDAQ shed 24 and the Dow Jones industrial average closed down 11 points, settling to 17,219.

"What we saw today was the market taking a little bit of a pause. We've seen really nice returns here in the last few weeks and I think the market just had to digest everything that's been going on," says Jim Hrabak, chief investment officer at MB Financial Bank. "It is all about earnings right now with 20-percent of the S&P 500 companies reporting this week."
