"He was bringing his friend Viola down for the first time," Matt said. "She'd never been down there before and he wanted her to see it - to see why he enjoyed it so much."

John Berg was killed along with his girlfriend Viola Flores.

CBS 2's Jim Williams reports Flores, a mother and grandmother, worked for her son's construction business.

Berg was a retired mechanic and devoted father, his son told us.

"Very loving and caring for the entire family and his friends and myself," Matt Berg said. "Spent a lot of time as I was growing up as a coach from my baseball team."

Matt Berg says his dad and Viola Flores had dated for three years. Berg loved Clearwater and wanted to experience it Flores.

"Sharing that love with Viola for her first trip there," Matt said. "Unfortunately this accident happened in a place he really enjoyed the most."

Clearwater Police Spokesman Rob Shaw says they had crossed the street at least 50 feet from the nearest traffic light and crosswalk.

Shaw says police are looking for the driver of a silver SUV-style Mercedes.

"No matter what the circumstances were, that's no way for a driver to behave in an accident like that... You don't just leave people in the middle of the street to die."
