New Michael Jordan Store Set To Open Saturday On State Street

CHICAGO (CBS) -- If you want to be like Mike, now is your chance. Superfans have been camped out for days, waiting for the new Michael Jordan Store to open on State Street.

They're hoping to see His Airness in person, but they know there's no guarantee Jordan will make an appearance at the grand opening on Saturday at State and Monroe streets. They're also hoping to get a pair of the new Jordan Brand sneakers, which could be worth thousands of dollars.

Some sneaker fanatics can't wait to add them to their collection, but others plan to buy them and resell for a profit.

The store is Nike's latest concept: a retail store featuring Jordan-inspired and hand-picked merchandise.

On Thursday, Jordan tweeted a video sneak peek of the store, which brings together retail and basketball. The upper level has a gym and basketball court, though that area is open only to invited guests.

Some people have been lined up since Monday, and some came from as far away as Las Vegas and Baltimore.

"Jordan has been a big inspiration in my life, so I'm just here to support the cause," Chris Brooks said. "It's Michael Jordan, you know? Hey, he's a legend in this town, so it only makes sense."

Riley Tennant said waiting in line for several days is worth it.

"The experience will last a lifetime," he said. "It only happens once."

It also could prove profitable. Tennant said he plans to buy a $350 pair of Jordans and resell them for about $650.

Not everyone will be making money off the experience. One group of friends said they're not only planning to keep the expensive shoes they want to buy, but they already have spent $200 per night since Tuesday, just so they could shower at the Palmer House Hilton.
