Reward Of $5,000 Offered To Help Solve Fatal Hit-And-Run In Niles

(CBS) – Investigators hope a cash reward will help solve a fatal run in Niles last month.

Little Emeal Kastadinow will never know his grandfather, 55-year-old Tadeusz Dec. One month before Emeal turned one, his grandpa was struck and left for dead in a hit and run in Niles.

Niles police say Dec was crossing Golf Road near Greenwood Avenue just before 11 p.m. on Sept. 17, when the driver of this White Toyota 4Runner hit him, leaving behind pieces of its left turn signal and marker.

Dec's son-in-law says the driver never looked back.

Authorities are now offering a $5,000 reward.

"It's the biggest reward we've ever done. A thousand dollars was a previous largest, and this is the biggest we've ever done because it's so heinous and shocking to our community," says Morgan Dubiel, president of Niles Crimestoppers.

The victim's family says he didn't drive but took the Pace bus. He was coming home from work when he was killed a block from his home.
