Bone Marrow Donor Found For Five-Year-Old Chicago Boy Fighting Leukemia
(CBS) -- Two months ago we told you about a five-year-old Northwest Side boy who is fighting leukemia for a second time in his young life. Now there is word of a development in his case.
When we first reported on Lucas Cervone, his parents were trying to find a suitable bone marrow donor.
A difficult thing to do in most cases - but even harder in Lucas's case because he is mixed race.

His father Anthony says the family got word that a donor has been found.
"We know very little," he said. It's a male from Germany."
Now radiation begins - and then the bone marrow transplant is scheduled for November 11.
"It'll be a little bit of a rough patch for the month of November and into December, but the whole point of doing the stem cell transplant is to eradicate the cancer, give him fresh, brand new bone marrow that's not prone to cancer. And hopefully this will be the turning point."
