Patrick Kane On Family, Supporters Backing Him: 'It's Meant A Lot'

(CBS) Taking questions for the first time since prosecutors in western New York announced he won't face rape charges stemming from an August allegation, Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane thanked his family and supporters, saying he was most happy for them following the resolution of the case.

Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita announced Thursday morning that Kane wouldn't face charges, citing "significant material inconsistencies" in the case and that the evidence contradicted the accuser's assertion.

Kane released a short statement Thursday through the team, then shed a little more light Friday in New Jersey after morning skate ahead of the Blackhawks' game against the Devils in the evening.

"You go through something like this you realize who your close friends are and who your supporters are," Kane said. "Obviously the Blackhawks have been great too."

With a multitude of off-ice incidents in his past, Kane added he's heard of no talks through the ordeal that the Blackhawks have any interest in trading him.

Asked whether he'll curtail his partying ways, Kane responded, "There's probably a date and time to address those things."
