Dancers Audition In West Loop For Roles In Lion King Musical

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A few hundred dancers turned up in the West Loop to audition for a chance on Broadway, reports WBBMs Mariam Sobh.

The auditions are for male and female dancers to join the ensemble of Disney's The Lion King on Broadway. The men auditioned earlier in the morning for both The Lion King and Aladdin.

Later, more than 150 women lined up for their chance. As the women waited their turn to go in, they smiled, chatted with friends and tried to remain calm.

Jayla Scroggins say she came out after her friend convinced her.

"I hope I don't freeze up," she said. "Hopefully I can catch on to the routine quick. I heard it's kind of hard."

No one knows what role they are trying out for. Kristi Licera says she's up for anything.

"Nala has like a herd of lionesses and I would love to be part of that or gazelle," Licera said. "I like to jump so I would really enjoy either of those two parts."

Dancers are hoping for a spot on the Broadway show, the national touring company or the international tour.

Yesterday more than 600 men and women turned up for vocalist auditions for the Lion King and Aladdin.

According to a Disney casting representative they will have seen over 1,000 people by the end of the weekend.
