VA Hospitals Holding Access Stand Down Day To Ensure Vets In Need Of Urgent Care Get It
(CBS) -- Military veterans in need of medical care were invited today to a VA hospital nationwide to ensure that their needs are being addressed, reports WBBM's Bob Roberts.
The Department of Veteran Affairs scheduled what it calls a national Access Stand Down Day. Every VA facility was asked to go through its records to determine if all who need urgent care are getting it.
At the Jesse Brown VA Hospital in the Medical District, Chief of Staff Dr. Wendy Brown believes they are.

"They have either been seen, are they have been scheduled to be seen next week or we couldn't reach them after multiple tries and have send them a certified letter so I am very proud to say we have no urgent veterans waiting," Brown said.
Many VA hospitals had to add Saturday hours as part of the stand down, but Jesse Brown already offers Saturday appointment as well as appointments as early as 6:40 a.m. and as late as 7:30 p.m. weekdays.
