Evanston Police Search For Man Who Hit Ambulance Attendant

(STMW) -- Police are searching for a suicidal man who ran away from an ambulance after hitting an attendant Friday in north suburban Evanston.

Jumal Lipscomb, 32, was being taken from a hospital in Skokie to Evanston Hospital about 4:35 p.m. on Gross Point Road near Central Street when he hit the ambulance attendant in the nose and ran south out of the ambulance, according to a statement from Evanston police.

Lipscomb, of Milwaukee, Wisc., had made suicidal threats, police said. He is described as a black man standing at 5-foot-3 and weighing 240 pounds wearing hospital scrubs. Lipscomb also had a black hoodie in his personal belongings, which he took before leaving the ambulance.

Police are also looking to question Lipscomb in connection with a robbery a few blocks from where he left the ambulance. An 85-year-old woman unloading groceries in the 2400 block of Hastings Avenue reported that someone hit her and took her purse about 5 p.m., police said.

Police recovered the purse, but the woman's wallet was missing along with $16. Another person reported seeing someone who matches Lipscomb's description shortly after one block away in the 2400 block of Crawford Avenue, police said.

Lipscomb is suicidal and in need of medical attention, police said. Anyone with information about Lipscomb or the robbery should call Evanston police at (847) 866-5000.
