Woman Kills Self After Shooting Ex-Girlfriend And Ex's Father In Bridgeview

Updated 11/16/15 - 12:27 p.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 28-year-old woman killed herself late Sunday night, after breaking into a home in southwest suburban Bridgeview, and shooting an ex-girlfriend and the ex-girlfriend's father.

Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, neighbors saw a woman dressed in black break into a home in the 7200 block of South Roberts Road through a basement window. A short time later, they heard at least 15 gunshots inside the house.

Bridgeview police said the woman who broke in – identified as Erika Augirre, of Berwyn – confronted a 17-year-old girl in the basement, and fired shots at her, but missed.

"There were shots fired down in the basement, and the girl was not hit, and she ran upstairs … and started screaming and yelling, and the mother and the daughter and the son was able to escape," Bridgeview Police Chief Walter Klimek said.

Aguirre then confronted 52-year-old Enrique Jaimes, and shot him twice. She then went to an upstairs bedroom, and shot 22-year-old Deisy Jaimes in the head, shoulders, and legs, police said. Both victims were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.

After shooting the father and daughter, Aguirre then shot and killed herself in the kitchen, police said.

Investigators determined Aguirre and Deisy James had been in a recent relationship, until they broke up.

Police said Deisy Jaimes is an employee of an Orland Park jewelry store, and Aguirre was a Cook County correctional officer.

Neighbor Jeff Polston said he called 911 after a girl who got out of the house unharmed knocked on his door for help. She told him about the intruder, describing her as a cold-blooded killer.

"She just said it was methodical; very slow, and not nervous," Polston said.

Polston said he walked his young neighbor to police, and she eventually was reunited with her family who escaped.

"All I can say is that I pray for them, and hope for the best, and I hope they pull through okay," he said.

Police said they are confident the shooting was an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the community.

"We are completing the formal investigation but we believe that this tragic violence is the result of a domestic dispute between two individuals, the attacker and one of the victims in the home," Klimek said.
