Lockdown Lifted At Oak Park River Forest High School
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A lockdown was lifted at a west suburban high school Tuesday morning, after police determined rumors of a potential threat were unfounded.
In an email to parents around 9:50 a.m., a spokeswoman for Oak Park River Forest High School said the campus was locked down while police investigated "the rumor of a threat to the school brought to our attention by a few parents and students."
Police confirmed the lockdown, but could not provide further details.
Around 10:45 a.m., the school sounded the all clear.
"Law enforcement has completed its investigation and found there is no threat to the high school. We have reopened the campus. All activities and movement throughout the building have been resumed as normal. Students who have permission to go off campus for lunch will be permitted to leave as usual," the school said in an email blast to parents. "The investigation was prompted when an OPRF student saw a social media posting that she believed indicated a potential threat of a weapon on campus. As soon as the matter was brought to our attention, we decided that the most prudent course of action was to close the campus until police officials could complete their investigation."
