After Son Sees Dead Body, Chicago Mother Takes To Blog To Express Outrage

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago mother snapped when her young son witnessed something no child should ever have to see: a dead body.

CBS 2's Brad Edwards shows how she's fighting the violence with her words.

Neffer Kerr says "anger" is building inside her, and that boil spilled onto her blog, "It's The Boom Show."

She's a single mother of 10-year-old Cairo.

"I'd like to leave my house and not worry about being shot in the head," Kerr said. "And that's real."

What's not, is Spike Lee's upcoming film "Chi-Raq."

"I'm just not here for a cheesy Blaxploitation version of what we're going through in real life."

In the movie, women withhold sex to end violence.

"I do not feel like the solution to the real violence that we have in the street lies between women's legs," Kerr said. "I'm praying that his use of satire is as effective as whatever he claims his intent to be."

Her opinion is starting to matter. She wrote after her son saw his first dead body while he was getting off the school bus this fall. She says she wrote about how frustrated she was.

"Beautiful Chicago…a place where on a beautiful summer day … the ocean would envy our lake…then there is S***cago where the rest of us dwell…..having to hold my 10 year old son as he cried seeing his first homicide hurt….some people are just too far gone and I wish they would all drop dead so the rest of us could live…F*** Beautiful Chicago and the people who are oblivious to how ugly it really is."
