3 Killed, 10 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

(STMW) -- Three people were killed and at least 10 others have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since late Friday afternoon.

The most recent homicide happened Saturday night in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

A 27-year-old man was found dead about 8:30 p.m. in the 6200 block of South Rockwell Street with a gunshot wound to the head, according to Chicago Police. He was killed in a possible drive-by involving a gray vehicle.

Another man was shot to death early Saturday in the South Side West Englewood neighborhood.

The 38-year-old was talking to his girlfriend in the 1200 block of West 71st Place shortly after 1 a.m. when three people walked up and shot him in the left armpit, police said. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and later pronounced dead.

The weekend's first fatal shooting occurred Friday night in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.

About 7:45 p.m., a 24-year-old man was driving southbound in the 7000 block of South Calumet when two gunmen fired shots from a sidewalk, striking him twice in the right ribcage, police said.

The man was able to keep driving two blocks south, where he stopped and his passenger flagged down police. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 9 p.m.

The Cook County medical examiner's office withheld the victims' names Sunday afternoon pending notification of their families.

The latest nonfatal shooting happened during a burst of Sunday afternoon gunfire that left six people wounded in less than three hours.

At 2:50 p.m., a 20-year-old man was in a vehicle in the 1000 block of West 71st Street when another vehicle pulled up and someone got out and fired shots, police said. He was struck in the head and body and taken in critical condition to Christ Medical Center.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m., four people were shot in a North Lawndale attack on the West Side. The were outside in the 4100 block of West Roosevelt when a gunman walked up, fired shots and then took off in a vehicle, police said.

A 24-year-old man shot in the leg and foot and a 25-year-old woman shot in both legs were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where their conditions stabilized, police said. Two men, ages 21 and 22, each suffered hip wounds and were taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital.

A police source said the three men shot are documented gang members.

About an hour earlier, a man was shot on the South Side while collecting signatures for a politician.

Officers responded to the shooting in the 7900 block of South Halsted at 12:25 p.m. A short time later, a 42-year-old man called 911 and said he was shot in the leg during a robbery, police said. He was taken in good condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The victim was collecting signatures for an elected official when the shooting happened, according to a police source.

At least four other people have been wounded in other attack across the city since 4:30 p.m. Friday.
