2 Killed, 7 Wounded In Thanksgiving Weekend Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were killed and at least seven others have been wounded in Thanksgiving weekend shootings across Chicago since Wednesday night.
A Thanksgiving Day shooting left one man dead in the West Ridge neighborhood on the North Side.
Jontaye Walker, 23, was standing outside in the 2200 block of West Thome Avenue about 1:15 p.m. Thursday when someone exited a vehicle nearby, walked up and opened fire, according to Chicago Police. The shooter then jumped into a dark green minivan, which sped away northbound.
Walker, of the 6200 block of North Bell Avenue, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body and was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:29 p.m., authorities said.
The holiday weekend's first fatal shooting occurred Wednesday night in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
Just before midnight, two people walked up to Mysean Dunning, 16, near his home in the 3300 block of West Van Buren Street and shot him in the head, according to police and the medical examiner's office.
Dunning was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:06 a.m., authorities said.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened in the South Loop.
A 31-year-old man bumped into another unknown male while in a nightclub in the 2100 block of South Wabash about 3:15 a.m. and the two exchanged words, police said. As the man was walking through a nearby parking lot a short time later, he was shot in the chest.
He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.
Investigators were not sure if the shooter was the same male the victim had previously encountered, police said.
About 2:40 a.m., a 31-year-old man was driving in the 3500 block of South California when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
About 1:30 a.m., a 31-year-old man was walking in the 7800 block of South Maryland about 1:30 a.m. when another male got out of an SUV and shot him several times, police said.
He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition, police said.
A 19-year-old man was shot in the left leg about 3:15 p.m. Thursday in the 5000 block of South Forrestville Avenue, police said. He was taken in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Less than an hour earlier, a 27-year-old man was shot in the lower right leg in the Hegewisch neighborhood on the Far South Side. He was was walking in an alley in the 13400 block of South Avenue O about 2:35 p.m. when someone in a nearby pickup truck fired shots and sped away, police said. The man was was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
Thursday's first shooting occurred in the Scottsdale neighborhood on the Southwest Side. A 47-year-old man got into an argument with someone about 2:30 a.m. in the 8600 block of South Kenneth and was walking away when the other person shot him in the leg, police said. He took himself to Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
The holiday weekend shootings began late Wednesday night when a man was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.
At 10:15 p.m. the 24-year-old was a front-seat passenger in a vehicle in the 3400 block of West Chicago Avenue when a red SUV pulled up alongside the vehicle and someone inside fired shots, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition was stabilized. Police said the man is a documented gang member.
