Kyle Long Tells The Tale Of His Lost Wallet & The Kind Garbage Collector

By Chris Emma--

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (CBS) -- Driving to Halas Hall on Tuesday, it occurred to Bears tackle Kyle Long that his wallet was missing. Then came a surprise.

Long received a phone call later that day informing him the garbage collector had brought his wallet up to the door. It was left overnight outside, soaking wet. He had dropped it on the driveway Monday night after dinner with the offensive line. So Long went to work finding the Lake Forest garbage truck, driving down the street.

Soon enough, Long located the truck and began honking his car horn, much to the surprise of the man at the wheel.

"Did you drop my wallet off?" Long yelled at the unsuspecting driver.

Upon confirmation, Long replied: "You're coming to the game on Sunday."

Controversy soon followed, as it became unclear whether the garbage collector, a city employee revealed to be Dan Hughes, could accept gifts. But this is the exchange between two friends, so it's fine.

"We're friends now," Long said. "I met the guy. I can give my friend a ticket or two."

When the Bears take to Soldier Field on Sunday against the 49ers, Hughes will be in the stands. For Long, it's a new friend after a refreshing act of kindness, which wasn't lost on Long.

"Good things happen to good people," Long said. "That's a really good guy. Hopefully he continues to be himself."
