Tim Beckman Is Boers & Bernstein's 2015 Quote Of The Year Winner

(CBS) The people have spoken after Tim Beckman did the rambling.

The former University of Illinois football coach who was fired just a week before this season started, Beckman on Wednesday evening won the Boers and Bernstein Show's 14th annual Quote of the Year competition for his classic explanation of "Oskee" at Big Ten Media Days.

Two years after being the prohibitive favorite to earn the prestigious Quote of the Year award based on his infamous "WINT" comment before falling to 670 The Score personality Chris Rongey in what some believed were voting shenanigans, Beckman left no doubt about his superiority in 2015. In a field of eight nominees, Beckman was the runaway winner with 44 percent of the vote. That easily outpaced PR executive Cheryl Boone Isaacs, who garnered 17 percent of the vote after hilariously saying "Dick Poop" when she was trying to say "Dick Pope."

In addition to the pure absurdity of it, there were two other reasons Beckman's quote won so easily.

First, he wasn't caught off guard. This was a prepared remark, as it was his opening statement at his press conference at the McCormick Place on July 30. He had planned this out well in advance.

Second, its length is unrivaled in the 14-year history of Boers and Bernstein's Quote of the Year competition. Beckman spectacularly and unbelievably rambled for 53 seconds.

The full transcript:

"We use the word Oskee not just because of the word Oskee or that it's a battle cry of the University of Illinois. But it also stands for something. That stance that we use that word for is our success equals the knowledge of being — the K, the knowledge, of being a great student-athlete on and off the football field. Understanding how to be supportive. How to understand to be successful in the classroom.

The E stands for effort, giving all-out effort in everything you do each and every day. And then the last E stands for energy. Energy, being a positive influence on the people around you. Having that belief and that system as being a teammate, being a brother, the band of brothers."

Tim Beckman

As has been well-documented, Beckman was fired on Aug. 28 after an investigation concluded that he mistreated his players in his three-year tenure at Illinois. Since then, it's believed that Beckman has only had two public comments. One was a statement vehemently denying the findings of the investigation.

The other was a short comment last weekend to the Champaign News-Gazette in which Beckman expressed happiness for Bill Cubit being named the Illini's new coach after he served as the interim coach in 2015.

There's no word on when Beckman will return to the public eye and grace us with his ramblings again.
