Updated 12/07/15 - 7:50 a.m.

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A person was struck by a Metra train early Monday near west suburban River Grove, causing delays of more than an hour on the Milwaukee District / West Line during the morning commute.

Inbound train No. 2202, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 6:13 a.m., was stopped shortly before 5 a.m. after it struck the pedestrian near the River Grove station at Thatcher Avenue and Arnold Street, Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said.

All trains were halted in the area until shortly before 7 a.m., when authorities opened tracks Nos. 1 and 2 near River Grove, according to the transit agency. At that time, trains were operating up to 70 minutes behind schedule.

North Central Service Line trains were accommodating Milwaukee West line passengers while authorities investigated the incident.

Reile could not immediately provide information on the condition of the person struck.

Passengers are urged to listen to platform announcements for service changes or refer to Rail-Time tracker on metrarail.com for current delay information.
