Man Charged With DUI After Crash Near Riverside School

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man has been charged with DUI after he crashed his car Wednesday morning near a school in west suburban Riverside.

Javier Jimenez, 23, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of drugs and possession of a controlled substance; and ticketed for driving with no insurance, improper operation of a motor vehicle, driving off roadway and several other violations, according to Riverside police.

About 6:15 a.m., Jimenez crashed his car into a retaining wall made of railroad ties at Park Place and Woodside Road in Riverside, according to police. Though the crash happened near two schools, no children were injured.

Jimenez suffered minor injuries in the crash, but refused aid from paramedics or transportation to a hospital, police said. An officer detected a "strong odor of alcohol" coming from his breath and asked him to conduct field sobriety tests.

Jimenez failed all field sobriety tests, police said. Police also recovered packets of cocaine from Jimenez and his car.

Jimenez was arrested and taken to the police station, where he blew a .16 on a breathalyzer, police said. He also consented to a drug draw and the results were sent to the Illinois Crime Lab.

Police said Jimenez was previously arrested for DUI on May 9, 2013, in Chicago.
