1 Dead, 20 Wounded In Weekend Shootings Across Chicago

(STMW) --A man was killed and at least 20 other people have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday night.

The homicide happened about 10:30 p.m. Friday in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the South Side.

Officers found 19-year-old Joseph Graves unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the back of the head in the 700 block of West 92nd Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. Graves, who lived in the 8400 block of South Green, was dead at the scene.

The latest nonfatal attack happened early Sunday in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood.

A 31-year-old man walked into Mount Sinai Hospital about 5:25 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds to the body, police said. He told investigators he was shot in the 800 block of North Central Park. The man was listed in guarded condition, but additional details were not immediately available.

About 3:40 a.m., a 27-year-old man was shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side. The shooting happened near the intersection of West 47th Street and South Ashland Avenue, police said. The man suffered a graze wound to the head and took himself to University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.

Less than an hour earlier, a man was shot in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. The 34-year-old was standing with a group about 2:50 a.m. in an alley in the 3100 block of West 53rd Street when a vehicle approached and the two groups began yelling gang slogans, police said. Someone exited the vehicle and then opened fire. The man was shot in the hand and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.

Less than 30 minutes earlier, a 59-year-old man was shot in the Princeton Park neighborhood on the South Side. He was standing outside of his vehicle in the 300 block of West 91st Street at 2:24 a.m. when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the leg, police said. The man was taken in good condition to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Center in Evergreen Park, and was later transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

About 1:45 a.m., a 38-year-old man was shot and critically wounded in the Avondale neighborhood on the Northwest Side. He was fighting with two other people in the 3200 block of North Drake when one of them pulled out a gun and shot him in the neck, police said. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.

Sunday's first shooting happened about 12:05 a.m. in the West Side Austin neighborhood. A 33-year-old man was inside a business in the 500 block of South Cicero when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the lower left leg, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.

Less than an hour earlier, a 15-year-old boy was shot in the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side. The teenager was standing on the sidewalk at 11:10 p.m. Saturday in the 5200 block of South Wabash when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He suffered a graze wound to the left ear and was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

At least 13 other people have been wounded in shootings across the city since 7 p.m. Friday.
