Bears Place Safety Antrel Rolle On IR, Must Make Decision On Kevin White By Tuesday Afternoon

By Chris Emma--

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (CBS) -- With the playoffs all but out of reach, the Bears have shut down veteran safety Antrel Rolle, placing him on season-ending injury reserved.

Rolle has missed the Bears' last four games with an MCL sprain suffered in the last play of the "non-contact" walk-through practice on Nov. 21, one day before the game against the Broncos. He had attempted to return for each of these past four games but was unable to find enough health to play.

"You worry about everything," Bears coach John Fox said when asked about Rolle's long-term health. "He'll be taken well care of."

In his first season with Chicago, Rolle played in just seven games, recording 35 tackles and zero interceptions.

Additionally, Fox announced that receiver Marquess Wilson underwent surgery on his foot injury this weekend. Wilson was placed on season-ending IR, too.

Fox wouldn't comment on whether the Bears will also shut down linebacker Pernell McPhee, who has been playing through a knee injury since the beginning of the regular season. On Sunday, McPhee missed his second game of the season.

After the move of Rolle to the IR, the Bears added rookie tackle Tayo Fabuluje to the active roster. He recently was suspended four games for violating league policy on performance-enhancing drug use.

The Bears will also have to decide on the status of rookie receiver Kevin White by Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. CT, the deadline to either place him on the 53-man roster or place him IR. Working back from a stress fracture in his leg, White has been working in practice with the Bears for three weeks, even participating in 11-on-11 team drills. Fox declined to elaborate on the upcoming decision on White but has been pleased with the body of work.

"He's the kind of guy we want in our organization," Fox said of White.

There will be more decisions to come for the Bears as they evaluate their team health entering the final three games of a season that has all but lost postseason implications.
