Scalpers Trying To Cash In On Star Wars Craze

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens today, and demand for tickets is high, but how high?

A number of Chicago area theater showings of the new Star Wars movie are sold out for Thursday night.

At AMC River East, 11 of the 12 showings were booked solid as of Thursday morning. Fans can still get tickets if they're willing to wait until after midnight.

Some people are hoping to score a little profit after buying tickets in advance. On Craigslist, people are selling tickets for $40 to $75 apiece. One person was trying to sell a pair of tickets to a showing at the Rosemont 18 for $225.

You can still get tickets directly from many theaters for as little as $15, though you might have to wait for a late night showing.
