(STMW) — A man was killed and at least 22 other people have been wounded in shootings across the city this weekend, according to Chicago Police.
The homicide happened Sunday morning in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.
A man was shot in the chest about 6 a.m. in the 5200 block of South Green and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately confirm the fatality.
The latest nonfatal attacks happened also happened early Sunday on the South Side.
About 7 a.m., a 38-year-old man was shot in the back in Englewood’s 6000 block of South Sangamon, and about 5:30 a.m., two males were wounded in another Back of the Yards shooting in the 5400 block of South Laflin, police said. One was shot in the chest and the other in the head.
Additional details on those shootings weren’t immediately available.
Shortly before 4 a.m., two people were wounded — one of them critically — in a shooting outside a Bucktown nightclub on the North Side.
The 21-year-old woman and 23-year-old man were walking with a group to their car in the 1400 block of West Wabansia when an argument broke out in the group, someone pulled a gun and then started shooting, police said. The shooter took off in another car.
The woman was shot in the head and taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. The man was shot in the leg and taken to the same hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
About 1:30 a.m., a 37-year-old man was shot in Brighton Park on the Southwest Side.
He was driving a car that crashed in the 4400 block of South Western Avenue. A passenger realized that the man had been shot and drove them to the 5500 block of South Lake Park Avenue, where they wave down a fire truck, police said.
The man suffered a gunshot wound to the upper left chest and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
Just after midnight, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. He was walking in the 400 block of South Homan Avenue when someone fired shots from a passing vehicle, hitting him in the foot, police said. The boy was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
At least 15 other people have been wounded in other shootings across Chicago since 7:20 p.m. Friday.
