Bulls Fans Greet Bobby Portis With 'Free Bobby Portis' Shouts Wherever He Goes

(CBS) Bulls rookie power forward Bobby Portis had made the most of his recent promotion to the team's regular rotation, averaging 9.4 points and 6.2 rebounds in the past five games.

Still, Portis didn't even need the increased playing time to be recognized in Chicago. He was already a recognizable face since the Bulls took him with the 22nd overall pick in last June's draft.

To what degree? "Every where I go," Portis said when asked how often he's recognized.

He has a Twitter movement to thank in part for that, as the #FreeBobbyPortis bit gained steam on social media early in the season as Portis bided his time on the bench.

"The first thing they say is -- I don't want to say it," Portis said after Tuesday's practice. "You all know."

Portis then acknowledged that, yes, fans greet him with "Free Bobby Portis."

"That's all they say wherever I go," Portis said. "I don't think they know I'm playing."

In all seriousness, Portis is just thrilled with his increased opportunity.

"It's a good opportunity for me," Portis said. "It's a credit to the coaching staff and my teammates for always having that trust in me just to go out and play."
